Market gardening plays an important role in human nutrition and contributes significantly to family incomes in West Africa, but their production is under pressure from pests and diseases that limit their productivity.

Pesticide plants can be a promising alternative for the management of pests in market gardening. However, most of them are not cultivated. Exploring the biocidal capacities of plants of interest such as the genus Ocimum, known for its therapeutic, medicinal and food uses, could be of interest to the producer.
