Plants for pest Control


If you are growing a biological vegetable garden, you must forget all the chemical phytosanitary products that destroy the ecosystem. Most of the commercially available insecticide products for pest control (aphids, snails, ants and other predators destroy the soil and biodiversity. And they leave residue on the vegetables you harvest. So what do you do? Fortunately, there are natural and effective solutions for pest control: Adding a few plants to your garden that are suitable for pest control!

Plants useful for pest control in the vegetable garden

Remember that, far from being « useless », insects called pests are useful and are indispensable to preserve all the biodiversity of your growing space. Without biodiversity, no abundant crops! Planting plants that are useful for pest control is not to kill them, but to keep them far enough to limit their actions on your crops.


Sagebrush Sagebrush is a repulsive plant on ants and aphids, but also on rodents. It is therefore beneficial to offer a place in your vegetable garden. Once you are well installed, you can use it to prepare a natural solution. Recipe: Boil 40 grams of sage leaves per liter of water, let stand 24 hours. Filter, you will only have to spray this solution on your plants and the soil of the garden.


Garlic is one of the best plants to control pests but also to prevent the growth of fungi responsible for fungal diseases such as downy mildew or powdery mildew. Natural garlic-based solutions should never be prepared in metal containers. Recipe: Chop 7/8 grams of garlic and soak in 1l of water for 24h. Boil the mixture 20 minutes on low heat and allow to cool. Apply this natural solution 3 times, 3 days apart, on the soil and the plants.


Lavender Lavender flowers have a certain repellent effect and effectively remove ants from your vegetable garden. Recipe: Boil 300 g of dried flowers in 1 liter of water. Spray the invaded plants.

The Comfrey

Comfrey Comfrey is very useful for limiting fungi and fungal diseases. Useful also against pests recipe: Make macerate 1 kilo of comfrey leaves in 10L of water for 24h to 48h. Dilute to 5% (i.e. 0.5 L of liquid for 9L), spray on the leaves of your plants.

The Onion

The onion is effective for the control of fungi and aphids. Recipe: Chop one onion per liter of water and boil for 5 minutes. Once cooled, spray the preparation on the plants and the soil.
